Solar panels mean steamy deal for Gridley packing plant
GRIDLEY — Stapleton-Spence Packing Co. is expecting to save thousands in its energy costs since the recent roof installation of solar water heating panels, produced by Chico's FAFCO.The panels mean that the sun's energy is helping heat water for the packing company.
Natural gas has been used by Stapleton-Spence to heat well water to steam temperatures for food processing. With the new system, the water is pre-heated by the solar panels before natural gas heat is applied.
Hot water and steam is used for a variety of purposes at the plant, from rehydrating and sterilizing prunes, to sterilizing canned food, and heating juices to preservation temperatures, among others.
Annually, the plant processes and packs more than 8,000 tons of prunes, as well as fruit concentrates and purees, according to its website.

How do I secure FAFCO solar panel (4x20') to a roof?
It doesn't have the slots other panels (other manufacturers) have to connect the metal brackets or straps to. It has to be secured for high wind area. thanks!
