Report: Woodland named a Calif. solar power leader

Woodland, trailing only Chico, is a state leader in solar power, according to a new environmental report.

The report, which came out Tuesday from the Los Angeles-based Environment California Policy and Research Center, said Chico produces more solar power per resident than any other city in the state, with solar capacity per resident at .110 kilowatt, followed by Woodland in second place at .100 kilowatt, for cities with 50,000 residents or more.

Davis ranked No. 30 at .047 kilowatt.

"California's solar market is thriving," said Benjamin Davis and Travis Madsen of Frontier Group, and Michelle Kinman of Environment California Research and Policy Center, in the report "California's Solar Cities 2012: Leaders in the Race toward a Clean Energy Future."

"Ten years ago, solar panels atop roofs were a rarity. Today, solar is taking hold in cities across the state, from coastal metropolises to agricultural and industrial hubs in the Central Valley.

We do not know the age of our roof. We bought a foreclosed home so we do not know much about the history of the house such as roof, when it was installed.

Any solar company worthy of the name should be able to estimate the age of the roof, if you do not have an exact figure. They should have gone through the roof and see if there are places where the roofing felt is showing.
