Lenox solar array in final negotiation stages

LENOX -- On the desolate-looking site of the town’s former landfill, an array of solar panels may be soaking up sunrays by this time next year if the town seals a deal with a Boston energy company and, most importantly, with town voters.

The proposed municipal solar project -- which also would include land adjacent to the town’s wastewater treatment plant and a small parcel on a hillside near Lenox Memorial Middle and High School -- is in the final stages of negotiation with Broadway Electric, which has been installing solar panels for 37 years.

The 20-year lease contract, which the town could buy out along the way, would save taxpayers an estimated $200,000 a year, said Town Manager Gregory Federspiel.

In an update for last week’s Select Board meeting and a follow-up interview with The Eagle on Tuesday, Federspiel said he hopes to have a draft proposal ready for a board vote by mid-January at the latest.

What should I use between the solar panel array and the battery shed on the ground? Also, what type of wire should I use to connect each of the panels?

Normally all the wiring is THNN. The wire size depends on how much voltage and at what amount of amps you are running through the wires. The wires from the solar array has to be 256% of the rated power out put.

There is a lot to it.
