Electric cars get solar boost in Alpharetta
"We have 155 solar panels and because we overproduce, we provide power to the charging station that charges these vehicles," said Perry Bell, Solar Energy USA president.On Dec. 13, the solar installation firm invited local electric car owners to test out the system and to discuss how they will be able to power their electric cars with a solar-powered car charging station at 7565 Industrial Court.
The 8,000-square-foot corporate office of Solar Energy USA runs all of its electricity with solar panels and creates extra electricity that is sent back to the Sawnee EMC's grid.
This extra electricity now powers a new company Chevrolet Volt car as well.
"We chose the Chevy Volt because it made the most sense for a company car," Bell said. "It makes financial sense."
The Volt was bought in September and has only been to a gas station once.
"With an electric range of 40 plus miles, we seldom use gas," Bell said.
