National Trust switches off solar power plans as ministers cut returns

He said that the changes removed any certainty from long-term plans being made by organisations like the trust.

Mr Lucas is concerned about the effect of the subsidy cuts on his Wrexham constituency, where Britain’s largest solar manufacturer, Sharp Solar, is based.

But he is also worried that the impact on charities, like the National Trust, and local councils will be severe. “This was an integral part of the National Trust’s green strategy,” he said. “The cuts mean some organisations are having to revise their entire business plans.” The cuts came into force on December 12, but they are being challenged by a number of parties in the High Court.

Patrick Begg, rural enterprises director for the National Trust, said the cuts risked undermining people’s commitment to generating their own energy.

A government consultation has not yet concluded, so there is a chance that Greg Barker, the climate change minister, could offer a reprieve to some projects.

By socket outlet are you referring to a standard house outlet? If so, the answer is NO. This is 12V DC and you need 120V AC. You could power an inverter, but the current level would be too low to do much with it.
