World's Largest Solar Panel Manufacturer See 20% Drop In Shipments

With so many solar companies in China, prices and shipments are dropping drastically.

The world's largest solar panel manufacturer, Suntech, will see its fourth quarter shipments drop by 20 percent, reports Bloomberg . Meanwhile JA Solar, China's largest solar cell manufacturer, is expected to see similar drops in shipments.

According to the report, since December 27 of last year the price of solar cells has dropped 57 percent, leaving many Chinese solar manufacturers in the red. Analyst Hari Chandra Polavarapu says the problem is that there are simply too many companies building panels and cells.

"Liquidation is leading to suicidal pricing." Polavarapu told Bloomberg. "China's strongest manufacturers are sacrificing profitability because the weakest players still exist."

For many manufacturers, the financial instability in Europe has led to a decrease in demand for solar products.
