VVWD seeks water basin study coalition
Board president Karl Gustaveson said the effort is overdue.This one particular issue is probably the most important issue the water district and this community has ever had to deal with, said Gustaveson. Its not that they havent been dealing with it they have been dealing with it and its something thats been discussed for years but were long past due in coming up with the answers the community needs to know so that we have water for the future.
Basin 222 is the geological formation from which the VVWD draws all its potable water. The district also has rights to water from the Virgin River.
The engineering firm Forsgren Associates has recommended to the district that total water resources in the basin be accurately assessed and coupled with development plans. Both Rock and Gustaveson have repeatedly stated that the extent of water in the region needs to be more accurately measured so that future development does not outstrip water supplies.
