KB Home unveils first zero net energy home in California

This morning, local VIPs and representatives for KB Home gathered in Lake Forest to present the homebuilder’s first zero-net-energy house in California. The home is designed and built in such a way as to produce, use and conserve energy by the most efficient methods possible: through the use of integrated solar panels, insulation, upgraded heating/ventilation/air conditioning systems and dual-pane, low-emission windows.

Among other energy-efficient amenities, the new Whisler Ridge house also features a roof built with smog-eating tile, a solar hot water heater, appliances and technology from EPA WaterSense and Energy Star, Electronic Energy monitoring system and automation controls for various systems.

The home, called the ZeroHouse 2.0, is located at Whisler Ridge, and is one of several zero-net-energy homes the company has opened all over the country.
